Dr. Danielle wright

Social Worker & Public Health Practitioner 

Dr. Danielle Wright is a distinguished social worker, therapist, and public health practitioner with a robust career spanning 13 years, dedicated to addressing trauma, toxic stress, infant mental health, and disaster mental health. A Spelman College alumna, Dr. Wright advanced her education at Tulane University, earning both a Doctor of Social Work and master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health. Her specialized training includes an Infant Mental Health Fellowship from the LSUHSC Department of Psychiatry and a Disaster Mental Health certification from Tulane University.

 

As the Founding Director of Navigate Nola, a child well-being initiative under the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, Dr. Wright has developed and implemented social and emotional learning programs across New Orleans public schools and Head Start Centers, benefiting over 1000 youth. Her leadership in this division emphasizes the importance of community wellness and educator training in mental health practices.

 

Previously, as the Program Manager at the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, Dr. Wright spearheaded the development of the Emotional Wellness Survey (EWS), a tool to measure mental health symptoms among New Orleans youth. Her efforts in this role have been crucial in highlighting the emotional well-being challenges faced by the community's youth.

 

In addition to her contributions to public health and education, Dr. Wright is a therapist in private practice at Atlas Psychiatry, and shares her expertise as an adjunct instructor at the Tulane University School of Social Work. Her scholarly work includes significant contributions to literature on therapeutic cultural routines and the experiences of Black women scholars, making her a published author and a recognized figure in her field.

 

Dr. Wright’s commitment to improving mental health and wellness in diverse settings, coupled with her academic and professional achievements, positions her as a leading voice and advocate for emotional well-being in the community. Her work continues to influence both the academic realm and practical application in mental health practices, making a lasting impact on the lives of many.
